IIFT (Indian Institute of Foreign Trade) Pattern

Following are the pattern on IIFT EXAM before 2006:

IIFT TEST ON 27th NOV 2005 :

185 questions of different weightage divided into 5 sections to be attempted in 120 minutes with negative marking of 1/3rd. Negative marking was 1/5th last year was changed to 1/3rd this time. Each question had 4 choices unlike the last year where there were 5 choices for each question. There was no sectional time limit. Total marks were 100. The 5 section were:

1) QUATITATIVE : 40 questions of 3/4 Marks per question. Making a total of 30 marks for this section. Questions were from Trigonometry, Complex Numbers, Calculus, Integration & Differentiation, Co-ordinate geometry, Stocks, shares & dividends, Clocks, Inequalities, Mensuration, Probability, Functions, Permutation & Combination, Matrix & Determinants, Algebra, Statistics, Logarithms, Number System, Time- Speed- Distance, Pipes & Cisterns , Time & Work, Mixtures & Alligations, Surds & Indices, Averages.

2) DATA INTERPRETATION : 40 questions of 3/4 marks per question making a total marks of 30 marks for this section. Questions based on Tables, Charts , Graphs, Data Sufficiency, Coding- decoding, Reasoning, Sequences and complete the Series. (UrPercentile.com)

3) ENGLISH USAGE : 45 Questions of 1/3 marks per question making a total marks of 15 marks for this section. Questions on Sentence completion ,sentence correction, selection of antonyms, synonym, misspelled words, parts of speech, prepositions and origin of words.

4) READING COMREHENSION : 20 Questions of 3/4 marks per question making a total marks of 15 marks for this section. There were 5 Reading Comprehension passages of varying length with 2 to 5 question on each passage depending upon the length of the passage.

5) GENERAL/BUSINESS AWARENESS- 40 questions of 1/4 marks per question making a total marks of 10 marks for this section. Questions on Current Business, Current Affairs, Constitution, Economics, History, Politics, Geography, General Science, Literature and Sports.

IIFT 2004

IIFT 2004 paper was of 2 hours with 196 questions in it. There were 5 options for each question and there was negative marking of 1/5 of the marks allocated to each question. The question were of different marks . There were 4 sections in it namely Quantitative, verbal, Reasoning and GK.  There was no time limit for the sections.

Quantitative Section had 48 questions in it with ¾ marks allocated to each question thus making a total of 36 marks for this section.  The questions were not difficult and there were many questions on higher mathematics also.

Reasoning section had 48 questions in total with ½ marks allocated to each question thus making a total of 24 marks for this section. There were question on Analytical reasoning, DI, DS, Verbal reasoning.

Verbal section had 50 questions in it with 2/5  marks allocated to each question thus making 20 marks for this section.  The section was bit difficult and had many “not so common words”  in it.  There was just one passage for RC.

The GK section also had 50 questions in it with 2/5 marks allocated to each question. Most of the questions were based on current affairs and were not so difficult. There were few questions on static GK also.

IIFT 2001~2003

IIFT 2001 , 2002 and 2003 had following pattern.

There were 175 questions to be solved in 2 hours . The were 5 sections namely  Quantitative ability, RC, English Usage , Reasoning and General Awareness.  There was no negative marking in these papers.

Quantitative Section had 47 questions in it with ¾ marks allocated to each question thus making a total of 35.25 marks for this section.

Reasoning section had 33 questions in total with ½ marks allocated to each question thus making a total of 24.75  marks for this section. There were question on Analytical reasoning, DI, DS, Verbal reasoning.

RC section had upto  5 passages with 20 questions based on them. ¾ marks were allocated to each question .

Verbal ability had 45 to 50 question with 1/3 marks allocated to each question.

GK was mostly based on current affairs and there were 25 to 30 questions on GK with 1/3 marks allocated to each question.
