How to Prepare for IIFT

How to Prepare for IIFT

Other than CAT, there is IIFT(Indian Institute of Foreign Trade) exam..concepts are more or less same but the level of the paper is quite easy in comparison to CAT.

  • Speed solving/ Speed reading is the most important factor which determines the success in this exam.IIFT tests your static GK as well.Data Interpretation is more calculation intensive.Passages are quite easy.

  • A sound vocabulary could easily sail you through the verbal section. It is advisable to the MBA aspirants to learn at least ten new words a day…be it any exam vocabulary plays a major role in verbal section.

  • In addition to vocabulary, read newspaper daily this will increase your comprehension and reading speed.

  • For quantitative ability section you need not prepare extra if you have prepared for CAT. The concept used are same and the level of the questions is quite easy in comparison  to CAT.Some of the questions are asked from trigonometry in addition to what CAT asks.

  • You can prepare Static GK from freembastuff.. We are soon coming up with a section where you will find the relevant material for IIFT GK,  other than this newspapers is the best mode  to study for GK.

  • The important thing is it is no where mentioned on the question paper about the sectional cut off. So try balancing the paper..do not leave any section completely and choose at least one section where you can maximize your score.
  • The experts feel that it is a good idea to prepare for Verbal Ability and General Awareness together. While sharing his own experience, Srijan Pal Singh, Knowledge Advisor, PT Education said, “While preparing for VA in CAT, I made sure that I focus on reading more of news and news analysis, e.g. dailies and magazines. This helped in preparation for VA, GK and even for the interviews.”
  • So according to the experts, what you need to do for preparing the general awareness section of the MBA entrance exam is to read news papers, magazines on current affairs on politics, business, sports etc., watch television and take regular tests on the basis of the MBA entrance exams. So just keep on updating yourself and test your knowledge by taking GK tests.
  • A look at IIFT 2006 confirms that it was the most difficult and surprising of the entrance tests last year, as test takers experienced more surprises than sections in the test. IIFT 2006 was characrterised by:

  • About 75 per cent questions with no negative marking but the possibility of more than one correct answer option. (The most unexpected bouncer)
  • Declaration of sectional cut-offs by the test makers for the first time. (A welcome surprise)
  • Reduction in the number of sections and answer options from 5 to 4. (Thankfully accepted).
  • Permission to the test takers to retain the test booklet. (A welcome move)
  • A tough exam, factually (literally, no one could manage to clear the initial declared cut-offs)

Now, let’s talk about what it takes to prepare for the IIFT entrance exam. Most of the concepts are more or less the same and praparation for CAT will be handy here. IIFT has Quant and DI integrated in one section itself, much like the FMA and XAT tests. In addition, if the IIFT 2006 pattern is retained, 25 per cent of the questions will be about ‘General Awareness’.

Dear Compete India , I m very much satisfied with your preparation tips for IIFT. Will it be possible for you to reply me in my email id , the queries I will be asking ? the queries are :
1)Will it matters , if I read the Business section of Times of India as well as Economics Times for cracking the GK part of IIFT and IRMA, apart from increasing the caliber in Verbal ability.
Or I should concentrate only in Political news , Current affairs etc etc .

    2) What is the possibility of getting a chance for admission in IIFT or any top 15 B-Schools , if a candidate does not have full time work experience , though academically he is 80% and above .

3)Lastly,what should be the final strategies one must apply , for getting a call from the branded institute (including IIMs).

Hope to see your sprint reply in my inbox.
